Wow so cute! A must visit. Every worker was kind when asking questions and very knowledgeable on the products available. The owner was also sweet in explaining how to use or eat certain foods! Came here to buy gifts for a friend and I’ll definitely be returning for more! They have a sitting area to eat outside too.

I was fortunate to get the freshly cut yellowtail before it had frozen in the freezer. We had it on New Year's Eve and it was exceptional!!

What a gem! We moved to Oceanside pretty recently from Del Mar so it was always easy for us to swing down to Convoy when we needed essentials like udon noodles or good miso paste. I’ve been missing those essentials since we moved and so I started hunting around to see what was in the area. Kyoto popped up and we decided to give it a shot. Not only is it very well stocked, they also serve food. They had a good selection of sashimi grade fish at reasonable prices, a nice range of frozen and sweet treats, as well as all of the sauces I could ever need. I’m a sucker for UCC coffee and sweet bread so we picked up some of that - they had a little cooler so I was able to have a cold one on my way home. Their range of ramen was good - all the standards were there - shoyu, tonkatsu, beef, etc. They also had a nice selection of rice and other fresh frozen noodles as well. Any sauce you could want was here - I needed more udon broth mix and a few specialty soy sauces. They had everything that I needed. They also had the hot S&B curry powder which can sometimes be hard to find! The staff were super friendly and the prices were very reasonable. We will be back soon :)

Update: Kyoto’s remodeled inside! AND big announcement of their Koakai brewery coming soon! I love local markets like Kyoto’s where the owners (Mike and Tomomi) are incredibly kind and put all their hearts and sweat into building a shop and community spot. I get all my Japanese goodies here and love all their weekend dishes from the ribs to fatty pork musubi. Delicious. Oishiiiiii. Wish those meals are all week long available - one can wish, right? I also get my daily natto here!!

Kyoto’s Japanese Market is a family-owned small business located at the same corner location since the 1970s. My Japanese mom and her friends used to shop there for hard to find Japanese food. Recently, I’ve been dropping in bi-monthly for traditional sushi rolls that you don’t ever find at a sushi restaurant. They only make them on Fridays and Saturdays I believe. ((Get there early!) It is a very small but immaculately clean market that carries the essentials for basic Japanese cooking and snacking. I appreciate how items like the vegetables are neatly wrapped and displayed. It’s not in the abundance but in the care and display that goes into each individual item. Very Japanese and very ZEN. At one time Kyoto’s was also a gift shop but now focuses exclusively on food items. I appreciate the availability of organic Nattō as well as sashimi-grade seafood. I am confident Kyoto’s maintains the highest standards of quality in their products. June 2024. Kyoto’s is under new ownership. Tomomi and her husband Mike are now managing the market. August 2024. Time to start making my own traditional sushi rolls. Inflation.

Excellent little store with almost exclusively Japanese products. We heard of their bentos sold on the weekend and got a yakitori and a beef curry. Outstanding!

Hands down, by far, the BEST musubi I have ever eaten. Everything about this place rules. The second you walk in, you know you picked a great spot, just by the smell. Clean, delicious, welcoming and kind employees. What more can you ask for?
